Product Limitations
- Test before using
- Though “Break-In” freezes, it is not damaged by freezing.
- Do not use below 45°F. Below about 55°F the speed of “conditioning” by “Break-In” begins to slow down fast.
- Conditioning stops below 45°F.
Fields of Application
- To condition surfaces of new, unused aluminium forms before their first use with fresh concrete.
- Oxidizes the aluminium surface to better keep concrete from sticking.
Application Instructions
Preparatory Work
Typically, aluminium forms from most manufacturers have a small amount of residual processing oil on them. Crete-Lease “Break-In” removes this oil.
Application
Arrange forms horizontally. Roll Crete-Lease “Break-In” onto the forms. Roll with ¾” or longer nap roller. Roll in one uniform direction (back and forth), then roll 90° to that (back and forth). Within minutes the forms appear to be covered with a thin layer of bubbles that look like shaving cream. Leave for about one hour or until bubbling stops. See Table for suggested times.
In hot, dry weather, forms being treated with “Break-In” will dry…this stops the conditioning process. When forms begin to dry, simply mist water onto the treated areas.
Hose off—use pressures found in city water systems, i.e., 100 psi or lower to wash off “Break-In”. (Caution: Higher pressures and/or the use of brooms will remove some of the conditioned surface.)
Final Appearance
Properly conditioned aluminium forms have a uniform, dull, gray surface. Shiny surface areas are not properly conditioned. Reconditioning is recommended. Where reconditioning is required, recondition the whole panel.
